Our Favourite 2019 Summer Events in Somerset
Summer is fast approaching in Somerset and so it’s time to look forward to days at the beach and holidays away with the kids. There’s so much going on in Somerset this year that we wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t know where to start! So we’ve taken the opportunity to list our top five favourite events coming up in Somerset this summer to help you choose your next great family day out!
Weston Air Festival – 22nd June to 23rd June
The Weston Air Festival and Armed Forces Weekend will be hitting Weston’s Grand Pier beach this month with a whole host of military air displays, ground shows and waterfront fun.
Featuring displays from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, a Chinook transport helicopter and the Great War Display team among other historic and modern aircraft, the sky will be filled to bursting with exciting sights.
Back on land, there’s exhibitions, bars, food stands, display teams and activities suitable for all the family. Each evening will be capped off with a mass balloon launch as 30 hot air balloons take off from the sands of Weston beach.
Somerset Cider Festival at the Grand Pier – 29th June to 7th July
Now running for a full ten days, the Somerset Cider Festival will be open from 12 noon each day and serving a wide range of ciders – from local producers to big brand names.
While the bar is open for almost two weeks, the weekend is where the party really starts. Along with a later bar close at 8 pm, the weekend event will also feature live music and a seaside BBQ for the ultimate festival feeling.
For an extra special experience, why not upgrade to a VIP Ticket? This special package includes free entry to the pier, an exclusive branded glass, six drink tokens and a festival brochure. If you’re looking to make a weekend of it, you can also snap up a West Country Weekender ticket. This includes a Cider Festival VIP ticket as well as a ticket to see Somerset’s own Wurzels in concert on Friday the 5th. All for only £22.50!
Somerstock 2019 – 13th July
The grand finale of the Somerton Music & Arts Festival, Somerstock is the latest addition to the thriving Somerset festival scene. The one-day event features 12 hours of fantastic music from 18 live bands – with the star attraction being top 20 hit machine Toploader. They’ll be closing the day off with Top 20 hits such as “Dancing in the Moonlight” and “Achilles Heel”.
With a range of bands across three stages, four bars as well as food and market stalls, Somerstock brings the full festival experience to Somerton Recreation Ground this summer.
Taunton Flower Show – 2nd August to 3rd August
As one of the country’s longest running flower shows (the first show was in 1831!), Taunton might not have the glitz and glamour of Chelsea – but it does have all the quality! Taking over Vivary Park in Taunton for the weekend, the area will be awash with the colour of breathtaking flower displays and the air thick with fragrance.
You don’t have to be an avid gardener to enjoy the Taunton Flower Show, while the gardens and displays are sure to draw you in, there’s a lot more to the show than just the flowers. With food and drink stalls and a wide range of entertainment, competitions and talks on offer, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. There’s also a play area to keep the kids entertained – when they’re not soaking in the lush surroundings of course!
Bristol International Balloon Fiesta – 8th August to 11th August
The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is Europe’s largest hot air balloon rally, with over 130 balloons in attendance annually from all across the globe. Held in the scenic surrounds of Ashton Court Estate, the views at the Balloon Fiesta are something you can’t find anywhere else.
When you’re not looking in awe at the many tens of balloons floating through the air above Bristol, there’s a lot more to see and do back at ground level, from trade stands to fairground rides and more. Best of all, entry is free! You just need to pay for parking.
Lakeside Holiday Park has a range of static caravan homes-from-home located smack bang in the middle of Burnham on Sea – making it the perfect place to stay while exploring all the area has to offer.
