Somerset events not to miss in 2018
It’s never too soon to start planning next year’s warm weather getaway – especially with the new season just around the corner. We don’t know about you but we can’t wait for the sun to come back!
There’s always plenty going on in Somerset and the schedule for this year is already starting to fill up! Here are our top 2018 Somerset events that you just can’t miss.
Wells Comedy Festival
May 25th to 27th
Entering its third year, the Wells Comedy Festival brings three days of gut-busting comedy to the smallest city in the UK. Taking place across several venues, past festivals have featured names such as Stewart Lee, Milton Jones, Joe Lycett, Bridget Christie and many more. The 2018 event is shaping up to be the best so far!
Be sure to keep an eye on the Wells Comedy Festival website to stay up to date on the 2018 line up.
The Dig for Victory Show
June 9th to 10th
The Dig for Victory Show is a two-day family festival held in the beautiful Somerset countryside near Wraxhall. This event captures the tumultuous wartime era of the 30’s and 40’s with food and drink (without rations!), live music, dancing, vintage shopping and military re-enactment. The festival also features real vehicles and artillery with previous years playing host to a Sherman Tank as well as Spitfire and Hurricane fighter planes.
Weston Air Festival
June 23rd to 24th
The Weston Air Festival and Armed Forces Weekend is a staple of the Somerset calendar. This relatively young event has, in recent years, captured the hearts of aviation and military fans up and down the country. Showcasing aircraft all the way from the WW2 era P51D Mustang to modern jet fighters like the RAF Typhoon – there’s something for even the most experienced air show patron. Back on the ground the Armed Forces celebrations feature a range of displays and entertainment from members of the Armed Forces Display Teams, Cadet Forces, many charity and service support organisations – as well as military and civilian bands. Not one for fans of military displays to miss.
The Wurzles at the Grand Pier
The Wurzles return to the Weston Grand Pier this summer to entertain you with their Somerset classics. With favourites including their 1976 number one hit “Combine Harvester” and the perennial crowd-pleaser, “I am a cider drinker” make sure you don’t miss Somerset’s finest this summer.
After the huge success of the last two years, KidsFest is returning for 2018. Taking place at the end of the Grand Pier at Weston-super-Mare, KidsFest is the ultimate kid’s event – featuring all the fun of the pier and more!
Past events have featured giant dinosaurs, exciting activity trials and a special performance from children’s entertainer Andy Day! Keep an eye on the KidsFest social media outlets to get the latest on who’ll be appearing in 2018.
Fireworks at Sea
Enjoy this annual event with a front seat view – at the end of The Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare! If you want to grab a bite to eat as part of the experience, why not go for a gold ticket that includes a fish and chips supper!
Want to enjoy any of these great Somerset events? Why not book your holiday at Lakeside Holiday Park? All of these events are just a short distance away, making a Lakeside holiday, a great way to experience all the area has to offer.
