The Top 5 Best Pubs in Cheddar
Cheddar Gorge is one of the most beautiful places in the South of England and is only a short drive away from Lakeside Holiday Park. It’s high cliffs and deep caves offering fantastic opportunities for walking and exploration. What do you do however, when you need a break? There’s no better place than a traditional British pub when it comes to recharging the batteries. So next time you’re in Cheddar, why not check out one of our favourite pubs?
The Cider Barn
What was once a disused barn is now one of Cheddar’s best-kept secrets. This quirky bar and cafe specialises in local ciders and ales, but also offers tea and coffee along with a menu of locally sourced home-cooked food.
Known for it’s friendly and welcoming atmosphere, The Cider Barn is a great place for a quick bite to eat while on your travels with the family or to spend an evening – especially if you drop in on one of their live music or open mic nights! So, next time you’re in the Cheddar area, be sure to head on down to the Cider Barn.
The White Hart
A traditional British pub nestled at the bottom of Cheddar Gorge, The White Hart is popular with tourists and locals alike. Serving a range of real ales, larger, stouts and ciders, The White Hart is cosy and inviting on colder days and – thanks to its extensive beer garden – a great place to relax on sunny summer days.
Serving a varied menu, including hearty pub grub along with vegetarian and lighter options. The White Hart is a great place to visit for a drink, as well as a meal – especially after a long day of exploring the natural beauty of Cheddar Gorge.
The New Inn
The family-run New Inn is a pub that knows its beer. Having achieved a Cask Marque award for its ales, it has been featured in the Campaign for Real Ales Good Beer Guide for ten years running. They feature a wide range of guest ales from local producers, including Bath Ales, Bristol Beer Factory and Twisted Brewery among others. With a big beer garden offering views of the Mendip Hills (you can even see as far as Glastonbury Tor!) there are few better places to kick back and relax on a sunny British summer day.
The pub is situated along the path of several main walking routes, including the Crooks peak walk and Strawberry Line cycle path – making it a great refuelling point for hikers and cyclists.
The Kings Head
The oldest pub in Cheddar, the Kings Head is a charming 17th century thatched public house located in a quieter part of Cheddar town. Despite being recently refurbished, the pub has lost none of its original charm.
Within walking distance of Cheddar Gorge, the Kings Head is a characterful and dog-friendly venue that has a selection of traditional ales and bar food on offer. The pub also offers a range of traditional pub games. So why not take a break from exploring nature for a game of pool, skittles or darts.
Riverside Inn & Restaurant
The Riverside Inn & Restaurant pride themselves on good, home-cooked, no-fuss food that takes advantage of in-season produce from local farmers – including locally reared 21-day matured steaks! With a menu that ranges from burgers and other pub-grub to full Sunday roasts and sharing platters, there’s plenty to choose from.
The Riverside Inn also features lounge and sports bars – filled with comfy chairs and large sun windows. With a bar stocked with a range of local ales and ciders, it’s hard to find a better place to relax with a paper or for a quick bite to eat.
The town of Cheddar is home to a number of great attractions, including a fantastic crazy golf course.
