Here’s a great excursion for the kids – and the entire family. The Haynes International Motor Museum just 50 minutes away from Lakeside Holiday Park is featuring Kids’ VIP Tours from Saturday, February 14 until Sunday February 22. The tours are held at 11:00am and 2:00pm and last about 45 minutes. Parents are welcome to come on the tour as well. Indeed children do need to be accompanied by an adult. There is no extra fee for the tours. It is included in the museum entry fee. When you enter, just book your place on the tour.
On Saturday, February 28, the Morris Garages Opening – The Morris Story exhibition is back. This display of Morris and MG cars has new exhibits, including a very early 1913 Morris Oxford chassis. There will be a country garage equipment display. If you want a special family picture, you can dress up and have a sit-in Morris car photo opportunity.
The Haynes International Motor Museum advertises itself with the catch phrase, “Packed with precious metal.” They aren’t kidding. They have 12 halls filled with more than 400 cars and bikes from the past and from today.
You will experience nostalgia from the 50s and 60s, see Bentleys and Rolls Royces and the latest super cars such as the Jaguar XJ220 and the Ferrari 360. Get your picture taken in Michael Schumacher’s F1 show car.
If you are into car history not just the glamour of automobiles, go directly to Hall 1 where you will see vehicles from 1910 and before like the 1898 Daimler Wagonette which was called the Fiery Liz because it had a tendency to backfire a lot and the 1910 Renault Twin Cylinder AX.
The collection is so extensive it has a Red Room (Hall 2) devoted entirely to red sports cars – 50 of them. Then there is Hall 8b, the British Hall with 60 years of tradition from the 1917 Morris Cowley to a very rare 1977 Rover 3.5 Estate. There are 10 other halls with displays that are just as extraordinary.
The museum also offers Haynes Workshop Services where you can get your own car serviced and MOT tested or fully restored. Haynes specialises in Jaguar and Land Rover cars. The technicians are factory trained technicians and the factory diagnostic equipment and factory technical data allow them to carry out diagnostic work on all models, new or old.
If you have a rare motor car, their world wide contacts gives them access to just about any part for any car. If they cannot find the part, they can manufacture it.
Currently the museum is open Monday to Sunday from 09:30am until 16:30pm. From March 1 until October 31, it is open Monday to Sunday from 09:30am until 17:30pm.
