Dartmouth Dining at it’s Best.
The reviews for The Seahorse Restaurant in Dartmouth speak for themselves. Located on the banks of the River Dart, and just 5 miles and a short ferry ride away from Galmpton, this restaurant has earned itself a well-deserved reputation as one of THE places to eat when visiting Devon.
The Seahorse specialises in Seafood and offers some of the best fish and shellfish in the world, skilfully yet simply roasted over an open charcoal fire with just a few herbs and their own blend of olive oil. They have a selection of tried and tested signature dishes, including roasted monkfish, scallops roasted with white port and black rice and spaghetti with a selection of local seafood.
The menu has some regular items such as cuttlefish, mussels (from Elberry Cove just down the road), small squid, turbot and sole but generally relies on daily availability of fresh local produce. Other menu items come from Milan and Paris, Brittany, and of course some are from the finest gardens in the UK.
Not a fish fan? Not to worry, there are also a wide range of meat dishes including their somewhat legendary rib of angus beef. Unfortunately, there isn’t much choice for vegetarians and vegans on the menu at the moment, but the side orders offer some delectable vegetable based alternatives.
The Wine List at The Seahorse is extensive – with a choice of over 180 bins, all individually selected to complement the seafood on offer. The restaurant opens several bottles each day in order to provide a wide and varied choice should you wish to try it by the glass.
What really adds to the enjoyment of a meal at The Seahorse is the warm atmosphere the restaurant provides. With attentive, friendly service and the doors open to all ages, the staff are on hand to make sure your meal becomes an experience to remember. If you require any extra requests, please let them know and they will do their very best to fulfill your wishes. If you plan to dine after the last ferry back over the River Dart, the restaurant can organise a boat for you.
The Restaurant is closed on Sunday (except for Bank Holiday Weekends) and every Monday, but opens it doors for lunch from noon until 2.30pm, and dinner from 6 – 9.30pm during the rest of the week.
Satisfied Customers say, “Dartmouth must be one of the prettiest towns in the UK and this must certainly be one of the best fish restaurants.”
“…the ambience and decor is smart without being intimidating and the staff could not be more friendly, and they really know their stuff when it comes to the food they are serving.”
