5 things to do with the kids this summer at Lakeside Holiday Park…
January Blues are well and truly underway, and like many of you, we’re thinking about the summer ahead here at Lakeside Holiday Park. It’s never too early to start planning for the warmer weather, and with the Park opening just in time for the Easter Break, there is no better time to book your stay – especially as we offer great discounts for early bookers.
In Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset and the surrounding areas, there really is something to do for everyone, but as we’re a family-based holiday park we’ve put together just a few of some of our favourite things to see, do and visit for kids of all ages.
An absolute MUST for train lovers – but also for those who enjoy a little culture, heritage and a chance to explore the great outdoors.
West Somerset Railway is the longest heritage railway in England, and is a true country branch line of the old Great Western Railway, preserving the area’s rail and industrial roots. Take a ride in a steam train and experience the true nostalgia of visiting an elegant remnant of the past whilst travelling through some of the most exquisite Somerset countryside.
The historic steam locomotives, coaches and wagons travel along a 20-mile route linked by ten unique stations. The journey passes through the Quantock Hills and Exmoor, by villages and farms, and along the cliffs and coast of the Bristol Channel. With breathtaking views of distant South Wales, Church Towers, Dunster Castle and the Minehead seaside, this trip really is one to remember for a long time to come.
The nearest station to Lakeside is about an hour away in Watchet – visit for a sneak peek or start a day’s journey here, the choice is yours. The Railway operates a full timetable from April until the end of October, and runs on a limited schedule for the rest of the year.
One for all the family, this combined Theme Park and Water Park is ideal for those sunny summer days. With 5 miles of sandy beaches on the doorstep, the park is just 10 minutes away from Lakeside – meaning less travelling time and more time for fun and adventure. With rides, amusements, golf, live entertainment and over 40 fantastic attractions, Brean Leisure Park is the ultimate family day out.
The perfect accompaniment to a day in the sun by the sea is of course a deliciously cooling ice cream. Our favourite family run ice cream parlour ‘Ice ‘N Cold’ in Brean offers 34 different flavours – and a beach within walking distance. If you prefer, you can sit and enjoy a lovely cream tea with tea and homemade scones – a Somerset speciality!
30 miles away from Lakeside is the world-famous Weston-super-Mare Grand Pier. Considered to be the ultimate 21st Century indoor theme park with world-class rides and attractions, the Pier offers fun for everyone – regardless of age.
There are arcade machines, exciting rides and regular events, but if you are looking for a more low-key affair, how about a traditional afternoon tea in Edwardian-style tearooms?
Whilst in Weston-super-Mare, why not escape for a few hours of adrenaline packed adventure and visit AJ’s indoor Go-Karting Centre? With a multi-tiered track layout, circuits, a café and an in-house laser tag arena, AJ’s is the perfect place to while away a few hours (and is a great option for those British rainy days).
These are just a few of the things that you can do during your visit to Lakeside, and there are plenty more besides! Visit our website today for a full range of attractions, and book your spot on the Park for your 2017 summer holiday.
