Explore Paignton

Near Galmpton Touring Park can be found Paignton, the central town of Torbay. This beautiful coastal town has plenty to offer the whole family all year round – from scenic beaches to award winning zoos and exciting water slides.

Beaches

Paignton is well known for its beaches. With soft sand over gentle slopes, this section of the English Rivera offers some of the safest and most welcoming beaches on the South Coast. On more blustery days, the beaches in the Paignton area are the perfect venues for surfers with the area’s many bays and coves offering some great waves.

Paignton Zoo

Paignton Zoo Environmental Park is a combined zoo and botanical garden that first opened its doors all the way back in 1923 – making it one of the first of it’s kind. The Paignton Zoo welcomes over half a million visitors a year, and it’s not hard to see why. This award-winning zoo is home to around 2,000 animal species and over 1,600 species of plants. At Paignton Zoo you can get face-to-face with some of the most interesting and entertaining animals on our planet; from tiny termites to enormous African Elephants. The Paignton Zoo is a great day out for all the family – from adults to kids there’s something incredible to see and learn.

Dartmouth Steam Railway

The Dartmouth Steam Railway runs between Paignton and Kingswear at the mouth of the River Dart. This bank-side railway line runs for seven miles between the two towns and has been delighting passengers with its traditional steam engine service for over 30 years. The Dartmouth Steam Railway lets you explore South Hams in style and is part of the award winning “round robin” all-day excursion service that features steam trains, a ferry ride and traditional buses.

Splashdown Quaywest

Walking distance from the Paignton coastline is Splashdown Quaywest – the largest outdoor water park in the UK! Featuring a wide array of slides and flumes, Splashdown Quaywest has something for everyone and is bound to be a hit with the whole family. Smaller children who may not be large enough or confident enough for the larger rides have their own dedicated water play areas and there’s even a more traditional pool for those looking for something more relaxing – no one need be left out at Splashdown Quaywest.

Paignton Pier

The pier on Paignton beach is a traditional Victorian amusement pier with all of the expected trappings. First opening in 1879, the pier features a wide array of refreshments and amusements to satisfy even the most discerning of leisure makers. The pier structure was modernised in the 1980s and now features an arcade that runs the whole length of the pier. As well as the arcade, the pier also features karting, slides and a carousel. A great day out indeed!

Palace Theatre

Constructed in 1890, the Palace Theatre is the oldest Theatre in Torbay and embodies the true sense of community theatre. There’s always something on to entertain and educate, with many different acts and companies coming through this comfortable and recently refurbished venue. Past acts have included Edinburgh Fringe Festival favourites, Agatha Christie adaptations for stage and independent modern theatre.

Galmpton Touring Park is the perfect place to stay while you get out there to explore Paignton. Why not enquire today?
